Escondido American Little League Tryouts Spring 2026 FAQs

Q: Does my player have to sign up for a tryout for the Spring?

A: All players in Minor B, Minor A, Majors, 50/70, and Juniors must sign up for ONE tryout slot!
There are no tryouts for Tball and Rookies.

Q: When will tryouts take place?

A: Saturday, January 10th  (9-3), Wednesday, January 14th (6-8), and Saturday, January 17th (9-12).

Q: What does my player need for tryouts?

A: They need a bat, helmet, and a glove, and any other baseball gear that they may need!
Please arrive in baseball attire and cleats if possible. No jeans or shorts.

Q: How do I sign up for tryouts?

A: Tryout links will go out via email and our social media platforms in mid December.
If you are not already receiving our league emails, please contact Lynette at [email protected] and request to be added.

Please be sure to sign up for the slots that are for your child’s age group.
Signing up for the wrong slot can result in having to come back on another day.
Please reach out to Christal at [email protected] if you would like to confirm before signing up!

Q: How will tryouts be organized? (Important: New in Spring 2026!)

A: All players, Minor B and above will try out with other players in their corresponding age group.
The age groups are shown below:

  • Group 1: League Age 14 and League Age 13 year olds

  • Group 2: League Age 12, League Age 11, and League Age 10 year olds

  • Group 3: League Age 9, League Age 8, and League Age 7 year olds

  • League Age 7 year olds that signed up for Rookies will not try out

Q: After tryouts, how will teams be made? (Important: New in Spring 2026!)

A: This Spring, all players will be registered by their birthday and league age, and NOT BY DIVISION.
All players will be drafted into the age appropriate division, as determined by tryouts.
Teams will be drafted beginning with the 14 year olds, and the draft will end with the 7, 8, and 9 year olds in the Minor B division.
This means that, based on skill and readiness, your player could be drafted into the following divisions (Age is based on league age. Please click here for the 2026 League Age chart):

  • League Age 14 year olds: Juniors

  • League Age 13 year olds: 50/70, and possibly Juniors

  • League Age 12 year olds: Majors

  • League Age 11 year olds: Majors or Minor A

  • League Age 10 year olds: Majors or Minor A

  • League Age 9 year olds: Minor A or Minor B

  • League Age 8 year olds: Minor A or Minor B

  • League Age 7 year olds: Minor A, Minor B or Rookies, if necessary (League age 7 year olds that are registered for Rookies will not be moved up to Minor B, due to space)

Q: If my child played in a higher division last season will they have to play down to their age appropriate division?

A: No, players who were in a division last Spring, and still meet the age requirements, will still be in that division. No players will be moved down a division.
For example, if your child is now League Age 11 and played Majors as a League Age 10 player, they will still be in Majors.

Q: Will my child have the opportunity to move up a division?

A: If there is space available, managers can draft younger players to a higher division, based on skill.
The player needs to have a League Age that meets that division’s requirement.
Priority will be given to the older players in each division.
Please see below for further explanation. Age is based on league age.
Please click here for the 2026 League Age chart:

  • Juniors: This division will be filled with all 14 year olds. If there are spaces left, 13 year olds can be drafted into the Juniors division.

  • 50/70: This division will be filled with all 13 year olds. If there are spaces left, 12 year olds can be drafted into the 50/70 division.

  • Majors: This division will be filled with 12 year olds, and then 11 year olds. If there are spaces left, 10 year olds can be drafted into the Majors division.

  • Minor A: This division will be filled with 11 year olds, then 10 year olds, then 9 year olds. If there are spaces left, 8 year olds and 7 year olds can be drafted into the Minor A division.

  • Minor B: This division will be filled with 7-9 year olds that were not drafted into the Minor A division.
